The only Zelda that I can think of that provided a Master Mode for free was NES Zelda 1. That is if you beat the game once and start again or type the name ZELDA for your character.
Zelda OOT Master Quest was a separate thing on Gamecube that you paid for.
WW did not have one.
Twilight Princess did not have one.

Also to complain about master mode being a part of the WHOLE dlc package is stupid. Nobody said BotW was easy when it first launched. It is not easy. It gets easier as you advance and upgrade your armor. But it is very challenging in the beginning. Using Master Mode to give people a reason to play through the game again with new content is a great idea.
In a day where Capcom charges $5 for an outfit, Activision/Bungie charges $5 for a taunt and whatever EA does to screw people over. Nintendo is not doing on over on the fans with it's DLC. Actually they have been pretty awesome with it. (One area they seem to do right while doing wrong in so many other areas)
